For most of the last century it was known for the aerodrome, where Avro and later BAE Systems built aircraft, and the site's redevelopment as Woodford Garden Village has changed the village more in a decade than in the previous fifty years.
Chester Road runs through the village with the pubs, the church and the community centre, and Woodford Park Industrial Estate holds a group of trade and light industrial businesses.
